Rheem Manufacturing Co. has notified the state it plans to close its Eemax facility at 400 Captain Neville Dr. and permanently lay off approximately 76 workers. The company notified the state Department of Labor in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice dated Feb.

Rheem Manufacturing Company is set to lay off roughly 76 employees. In a letter to the Department of Labor Rapid Response Unit, Rheem Manufacturing said that it must permanently lay off a number of its employees at its Eemax facility on Captain Neville Drive.

Soniah Thompson, of Waterbury, turned herself into Connecticut State Police after they said she cashed a check at an Old Lyme bank that had been "washed."

Waterbury police have arrested the driver they say is responsible for hitting and seriously injuring a pedestrian last August. The incident happened on just before 6:30 p.m. on August 18 on Cherry Street.

A woman from Waterbury was accused of check washing a check from a yacht club. State police said they charged 28-year-old Soniah Thompson with third- and fourth-degree larceny. Thompson turned herself in on Thursday on the strength of an arrest warrant.
